NAA NYM was founded by parents, grandparents and professionals all of whom have been affected by autism. Because we know what it is like to live with autism, we wanted to provide to our community meaningful resources that we too would find useful.
Our goals include:
To be a resource to families, educators and caregivers affected by autism spectrum disorders
To educate parents, educators, and caregivers on parenting children with autism spectrum disorders
To advocate for and empower families affected by autism spectrum disorders
To meet those goals we have a number of objectives:
Presenting frequent educational programs with professional speakers on a wide variety of topics from medical treatments, nutrition, and therapeutic interventions to taxes, financial planning and insurance;
Providing a monthly parent and caregiver support group moderated by a licensed psychologist experienced in working with those affected by ASD and their families;
Advocating on a local, state and national level on behalf of those with ASD;
Working within the community, with media, and partnering with other organizations to reach families and professionals affected by ASD and to educate the community about ASD;
