Please note the October 2015 Parent Support Group Will Not be Meeting but read below for important information about our support groups and a message from Dr. Lauren Tobing-Puente!
Dear Families: For many years, Dr. Lauren Tobing-Puente has moderated our Manhattan Support Group. She has been an invaluable resource to our families and we cannot thank her enough. Her practice is moving to Queens so she will no longer be able to moderate the Manhattan group. We are in the process of locating a new moderator for Manhattan and hope to have the group up and running again very soon! Stay posted for more news.
In addition, with Dr. Tobing-Puente’s move, she will be moderating a support group for us in Queens! Her new office is conveniently located near public transportation and there is also parking available. We hope to have more news on the new Queens support group very soon. Stay posted!
MESSAGE FROM DR. LAUREN TOBING-PUENTE
Dear Parents,
It has been such a pleasure moderating NAA NY Metro’s Parent Support Group at my Manhattan locations for the past six years. Close to 200 parents have attended the support group over these years, coming from the five boroughs of NYC, New Jersey, and Westchester. While the group has aimed to provide support, education and guidance to parents of children diagnosed with ASD, I wanted to share how inspired I have been by those who have attended. The way parents have shared their stories, expressed their concerns, vented about the many challenges and injustices (about treatment provision) they experienced, as well as how parents have brainstormed strategies together, and offered to support one another (in and outside of the group) have been nothing short of remarkable. I am proud and thankful to have been a part of their journey with their children over the past six years and to have created a supportive community for them.
As our lives move in various directions, I have come to an exciting turning point in my work, as my practice is expanding with a new office in Bayside, Queens. While this means that I am no longer able to provide the parent support group in Manhattan, I am excited to move the parent group to Queens. I am hopeful that this will allow new parents to attend. Please stay tuned on NAA’s website for more information about dates and location.
All the best to you and your families,
Lauren Tobing-Puente, PhD
